Why Not Shop Local?

There have been so many changes over this past year that it’s hard to keep track at this point…

With so many businesses having to close their storefronts (or just close altogether), I’ve tried to make a bigger effort to support Niagara’s local shops this year. Whether that be ordering some new mugs for curbside pick-up or takeout from a local restaurant, I decided that this is the year I’m going to explore more of what Niagara has to offer. So, I thought I’d share a few of my favourites!

Craft Coffee + Goods is the perfect spot if you

’re searching for home and lifestyle goods … and of course, some quality coffee. The shop is home to many different local creators, and they offer a wide variety of products. Craft Coffee + Goods has everything from beautiful jewelry to locally made candles and home décor (including some plants I’ve had to stop myself from buying). The shop has the perfect gift that you didn’t know someone needed.

Originally located in downtown St. Catharines, Craft Coffee + Goods has recently decided to make the switch to an online retail shop. While I’ll miss popping into the store for a quick look and coming out with a great new find, I’m so excited to see what’s in store for them in the future!

Garden City Essentials is one of my newer finds, even though they’ve been open for over 3 years in downtown St. Catharines. They offer various eco-friendly beauty, wellness, and lifestyle products both from their own company as well as outside brands.

Their goal is to reduce waste in all aspects of people’s lives. Something I’m so excited to try is their refill program. Essentially, you can bring in your own glass containers for products such as shampoo & conditioner, dish soap, and hand soap to help reduce the number of plastic bottles you use!

Finally, I wanted to introduce you to Backcountry Coffee Company. Founded by Kyle Morgan - a Goodman student himself – the company not only offers some great brews but also some ways to make good coffee on-the-go such as their biodegradable (and bonfire-disposable) brewing system. Be sure to keep an eye out for their Mobile Coffee Wagon this summer which can usually be found at different farmers markets and campgrounds in Niagara!
